LAFAYETTE -- Three Adams City wrestlers placed in the top six of their respective weight classes at the Top of the Rockies tournament at Centaurus High School.

Danie Long was third at 157 pounds. After a quarterfinal round loss, he had to win three straight consolation bracket matches to compete for third place. Then, he beat Fort Lupton's William Alvarado 5-1 for third place.

Seth Deaguero (150) was fourth. He won his first three matches and wound up winning four of six contests. Pomona's Vincent Cabral won the third-place match.

Micah Ortiz took fifth at 190 pounds. He lost in the second round, then won  four consolation round matches to tay in contention. After a loss in the consolation semifinals, Ortiz bohnced back for an overtime, 5-3 win over Cheyenne Easty's Trevor Aldridge for fifth place.

Adams City was among 46 high schools from Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado to send teams to the annual Top of the Rockies tournament at Centaurus High School. It's regarded as one of the tougher tournaments on the prep wrestling calendar. Some say it's even tougher than the state tournament next month at Ball Arena.
