KEARNEY, NE – It started as a traffic stop for an alleged speeding violation along Interstate 80 near here.

It ended with the arrest of two people, including a Commerce City resident, and the seizure of 80 pounds of marijuana.

The Nebraska State Patrol arrested the men, 36-year-old Apolonio Pastrana of Springfield, Oregon, and a passenger in the vehicle, 26-year-old Arturo Renteria Cazares of Commerce City, Colorado, shortly after the 1:45 a.m. stop Tuesday morning. Both were in the Buffalo County Detention Center late Tuesday afteroon. They could face a charge of possession of marijuana with Intent to deliver.

The state patrol said a trooper originally stopped the car for speeding. Reports said Pastrana didn't have a driver's license. When troopers searched the vehicle, they found the marijuana in two steel boxes inside the trunk. Troopers said the boxes were welded shut. Each contained 40 pounds of marijuana.
