Thelma B. Shimpfky, 96, of Broomfield, died April 28, 2009, at her home.

She was born May 28, 1912, to Joe and Maude Brazelton and raised in Elbert. She graduated as valedictorian from Elizabeth Union High School in 1930. She attended Colorado Teachers College on a full scholarship and received a two-year degree to teach school.

She met Henry Lester Shimpfky while teaching school in Parker in 1938. They married Christmas Day 1939. They moved to Broomfield in 1956 with their four children. Thelma also taught school in Brighton for 27 years. She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Her career spanned 45 years, and she retired from Brighton’s Southeast Elementary in 1977.

Thelma was a member of The Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, serving as president, and a member of the Broomfield United Methodist Church for 52 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Laurel (Ron) Marcucci; sons, Richard (Jamel) and Joe (Donna) Shimpfky; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Eula (Bill) Harrison; one brother in law, Tom Shepherd; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Donna Lea Shimpfky; her parents; and five siblings.

Interment was at Crown Hill Cemetery.
