U.S. veteran Gary L. Lathrop, 61, of Brighton, died March 24, 2009, in Brighton. Gary was born May 27, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Marion and Betty (Hoover) Lathrop.
Gary received his diploma from Evergreen High School in January 1998. Gary worked as an Adams County veterans services officer from 1990 until his recent retirement. He also worked as a self-employed electrician in Colorado.
Gary was a United States Marine veteran and spent two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Brighton American Legion, and was a past commander of the VFW 2841 as well as a past district commander. He was a member of the Brighton Elks 1586 and the VFW Military Order of the Cooties.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Lathrop of Abilene, Texas; sons, Terry Braden, of Arvada, Tim (Angela) Braden, of Texas, and Gary (Vickie) Lathrop, of Loveland; daughters, Jessie (Barry) Ludwick of Brighton, Trudy (Brad) Brown, of Fort Lupton, Tonya Husak, of Highlands Ranch and Kristy Lathrop of Brighton; a brother, Randy; sisters, Pam, Winnie and Marsha; 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Starlet, in 2001; his first wife, Fayette Philamalee, in 1996, and his second wife, Darlene Robinson, in 2008.
A funeral service was March 27 at the Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton, which handled the arrangements.
