Cracker shells to be used to scare geese away at Buffalo Run Golf Course

COMMERCE CITY — City staff will periodically use loud cracker shells this winter to scare geese off Buffalo Run Golf Course.

According to a city press release, large populations of geese tend to seek out open areas to feed during the winter, including a gaggle of geese that has taken residency at Buffalo Run. Geese of this magnitude can easily destroy this championship course.

The shells make a very loud noise and are designed to scare the geese from the area but not harm them. The shells will be set off randomly and as infrequently as possible. The permit to set off “cracker shells” is valid between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. through March 29.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to Paul Hebinck at 303-289-1500 or Police Lt. Chuck Saunier at 303-289-3792.
