BRIGHTON -- Adams County government offices closed at 3 Thursday afternoon because of the bad weather. The offices are expected to reopen Friday morning.
The county's public works department is using 24 snowplows - 10 in the eastern areas, 12 in the western areas and two working in between. Crews have been out since 2:30 Wednesday morning trying to stay ahead of the storm. At 11 a.m. Thursday, officials said the worst conditions were on east/west roads, thanks to northerly winds that were creating drifting snow.
The county said one thing working in its favor is the mass school closings because of the storm. Instead of focusing on areas around schools, the road crews have been able to work on the county's major roads.
Crews are working 12-hour shifts and will continue that schedule to keep the roads cleared.
