Profession: Tax Attorney

Biography: I am a tax attorney in my day job. Every day my clients entrust me with the safety and security of their money. They also rely on my advice on how to pay what they owe to the IRS but do it in a way they can afford and save the most money possible. I grew up in a small town in South Dakota. There, I learned the value of hard work, trustworthiness, and the value of your word. After achieving undergraduate degrees in sociology and criminal justice, I went to law school in Arizona and ultimately attended the University of Denver for my master's of laws degree in taxation.
The Denver metro area was the first area that felt like home to me since leaving my hometown, so my wife, Kristin, and I decided to stay. Shortly after I graduated in 2015, we rented a house and moved to Aurora. In 2021, we purchased our first home in the middle of Aurora.
What resources for taxpayers do you want to highlight and support?
The treasurer’s office needs to expand their public communications effort and ensure that every taxpayer is aware of every county program they could qualify for. As treasurer, I will make sure that opportunities are well advertised and equitably distributed.
Are there any ways you would or could make the tax process easier or more simple in Arapahoe County?
The collection and distribution of taxes is predominantly mandated by law and must reach the communities they are designated for (such a school district funds). Because Arapahoe County spans multiple fire districts, metro districts, school districts, and cities, the tax process will always have many different facets.
In your view, what are some of the most important functions of the yreasurer's office that some may not know about?
Investments. In order for Arapahoe County to pay for much-needed services for residents, we need to increase our rate of returns on investments.
What is your biggest priority for treasurer?
My biggest priority will be increasing revenue for Arapahoe County without raising taxes by exploring public enterprises.
What are the biggest policy difference between you and your opponent?
The biggest policy difference between my opponent and I is that I believe that the treasurer’s office should be a proactive office that works with the state to increase services. As treasurer, I will be a proactive member of the county and work to increase revenue to ensure we continue to provide and expand services to our residents.
